On 13th November, 2024 (Wednesday) afternoon, Hong Kong Energy, Mining and Commodities Association held a meeting with Hong Kong Customs at the Customs Headquarters in North Point.
Representatives from Customs included Deputy Commissioner Woo Wai Kwan Mark, Assistant Commissioner Lai Chi Wing Barry, Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Supervision Bureau Head Man King Foon Harriet, Deputy Head Lo Chin Man, and Divisional Commander Wong Koon Kit, Superintendent Head of Ports Control Group Lai Yan Ning Corex, and Group Head of Air Cargo Tai Suet Fun Kennis.
Attendees from HKEMCA included Chairman Ken Huang, Vice Chairman Jaffe Lau, Honorary Chairman Stanley Pong, Committee Chairman Alan Tan, General Manager of China Inspection Company Zeng Jing Song, Executive Director of Xiashun Holdings Limited Christina Chan, and Director of International Business Public Affairs of Cainiao International Chloe Deng.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Department Head and several Superintendents introduced traditional customs clearance regulations and explored into the HKEMCA's plan to establish LME warehouses in Hong Kong. They also discussed anti-money laundering measures, the registration of precious metals, benefits of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, and the scope and favorable trade arrangements of the Free Trade Agreement Transhipment Facilitation Scheme (FTA Scheme). Additionally, the convenience of the Single E-Lock Scheme was explored.
This exchange meeting was highly beneficial for the association, and a group photo was taken with Customs representatives afterward.
Lastly, the Customs and Excise Department indicated that they will hold Seminars regularly to provide detailed information about the regulatory regime of the Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones for industry participants, inviting HKEMCA members to attend for a better understanding in registering for the program.
