On the afternoon of October 18, 2024 (Friday), the Association organized a study tour, leading participants to visit Siu Wing Steel and the Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre.
At the Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre, we gained an in-depth understanding of the effective recycling process for Waste Lead-Acid Batteries (WLAB). If not handled properly, these batteries can cause long-term damage to the environment. The Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre is dedicated to providing final disposal and comprehensive recycling solutions. With advanced technology, it has become the only government-approved facility in Hong Kong for the recycling and reuse of waste lead-acid batteries, achieving a current reuse rate of 80%, with expectations to reach 90% in the future.

We then visited Siu Wing Steel, the sole steel mill in Hong Kong, founded in 1956. For over sixty years, Siu Wing Steel has established itself as a leading manufacturer and retailer of rebar, providing high-quality products for numerous major infrastructure projects and playing a vital role in Hong Kong's economic development.

After the visit, Siu Wing Steel and the Hong Kong Battery Recycling Centre invited the study tour participants to Hakata Concepts restaurant at Golden Coast Mall for a delightful evening together. Vice Chairman Jaffe Lau generously sponsored homemade wine, allowing everyone to engage in meaningful discussions about the insights gained from the tour while enjoying the beautiful sunset and ocean views. This event deepened our understanding of these companies' operational models and their crucial roles in environmental protection and economic development.
We hope this event has inspired and provided valuable insights for everyone!
